Oman’s first polyethylene pipes manufacturing facility to be set up in Duqm
Factory will produce 1,200km of reinforced thermopolyethylene pipes annually
Duqm Hongtong Pipes Company has recently broken ground for Oman’s first factory for manufacturing reinforced thermo polyethylene pipes at the Special Economic Zone of Duqm (SEZD).
Construction will begin later this month and is expected to last 10-12 months.
The plant will be built over an area of 60,000 sqm. and is designed to be able to produce around 1200km of reinforced thermo polyethylene pipes annually, with its capacity expected to double in the future. The first batch of products is expected to be delivered by the second quarter of 2020.
According to a report, the manufacturing plant will meet the growing local and international demand for non-metallic pipes that can be used for the oil and gas industry and specifically for the collection and transfer of hydrocarbon fluids through the piping networks. The final products will be manufactured as per the technical specifications of the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and the American Institute of Petroleum.
Commenting on the opening of the plant, Weihai Hongtong Pipe’s chairman said that Duqm’s geographical location and the sultanate’s customs agreements with other countries oversees was a good reason for their investment in Oman.
He added that the main consideration behind their investment in Oman was to transfer and exchange technologies and to benefit from the competitive advantages offered by the business environment in the sultanate.
The ceremony was held in the presence of government dignitaries from Oman and China and representatives from shareholders, investors, stakeholders and potential customers, the report added
