Thom Bohlen, as chief technical officer (CTO) for the Middle East Centre for Sustainable Development (MECSD), and his staff are leading development teams in over 120 projects totalling over 10 million sqft. through sustainable development and certification processes.
MECSD is one of the largest sustainable development consultants in the world with 16 USGBC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professionals, as well as several ESTIDAMA PEARL Qualified Professionals (PQP).
MECSD is headquartered in Dubai within the Pacific Controls Systems LEED platinum-rated green building, the 16th in the World and the first in the UAE. MECSD has currently LEED Certified more than 32 green buildings, almost all of which save one are in the UAE, including 2-platinum, 16-Gold and 14-Silver certifications, and has many more projects under review.
Thom’s extensive experience as owner of his own sustainable architectural practice in Arizona and as chief technical officer for MECSD in Dubai has given him vast experience in the knowledge and practice of sustainable development and its benefits.
To Thom, sustainability is more than an economic or lifestyle issue. Thom sees fulfilment of the sustainability vision as requiring a holistic shift in the way we humans interact with and protect our earth.
Thom integrates the science and the art of sustainability to help facilitate this shift to ensure the survival of the planet for our grandchildren and for their grandchildren. Thom coined the phrase ”there is no way to sustainability…sustainability is the way”.
