Expo 2020 Dubai marks UK becoming an independent trading nation, says minister
Dr Liam Fox says event will provide a global platform to ‘showcase our ambition’ post-Brexit
The UK minister of international trade says that next year’s Expo 2020 Dubai will be an opportunity for the country to mark its status as “a truly independent trading nation.”
The UK is currently due to leave the European Union on 31 October. While the departure from the world’s largest single market has divided opinion since a close-fought referendum in 2016, supporters of ‘Brexit’ believe UK industry to energise its position in the global marketplace.
Commenting on today’s announcement of the appointment of McLaren Construction as the builder of the UK pavilion at the event, Dr Liam Fox noted: “As the first major international moment after we leave the EU, Expo 2020 Dubai will mark the UK becoming a truly independent trading nation.”
Expo 2020 Dubai will open on 20 October, 2020 with the UK pavilion situated in the Opportunity District.
Fox added: “The Expo provides a global platform to showcase our ambition for the future, and our participation provides excellent opportunities for UK businesses that have already won major contracts. I am delighted that our newly appointed construction partners Pico and McLaren will be working with our design team to bring the best of British creativity, innovation and expertise to the world.”
