Saadiyat Development and Investment Company (SDIC) has appointed Shapoorji Pallonji Middle East as the main contractor for the $416.5 million Qaryat al Hidd development on Saadiyat Island.
In a statement, the developer said that board members HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Saeed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, HE Hamad Al Darmaki, and CEO/MD Rashid Al Zaabi officially announced the appointment of the contractor, who joins international construction and real estate consultants, Drees & Sommer, lead international design consultants B+H Architects Corp, and lead international and architectural and engineering multi-disciplinary consultants Khatib & Alami.
The 160,000sqm Qaryat al Hidd development consists of two separate residential developments, Sunrise and Sunset. More than 900 luxury apartments are spread across 12 buildings, each with housing ranging from one, two, three and four-bedroom units. The four and five storey apartments have been designed to be architecturally representative of their respective zones and are connected by greenery and ornamental gardens. All properties will offer waterfront views.

Shapoorji Pallonji Middle East is part of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group, which has been in operation for 154 years. It has an annual turnover of $7 billion and sustained growth year-on-year, the statement said. Since its inception, it has been regarded as a pioneer in the Indian construction industry.

Drees & Sommer’s remit for the project will see the team be responsible for elements of the project, including agile planning, value engineering, technical project management, cost control and quality management, amongst others.
As the lead design consultants, B+H Architects will be the planner architect, landscape architect, and interior designer, the statement added.
Khatib & Alami has been appointed as Construction Supervision Consultant for Qaryat Al Hidd and they will be responsible for working with the contractor to ensure the project is built according to exacting standards, in line with the design drawings and specifications, and for maintaining best practices in health and safety.
Qaryat al Hidd forms part of the larger 1.5 million sqm Hidd al Saadiyat masterplan development on Saadiyat Island and will feature a range of amenities including parks, playgrounds, shops, restaurants as well as a range of five-star resorts and world-class marina and yacht club.
