Empower launches summer campaign designed to reduce cooling consumption

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has launched the ‘Switch to 24 deg C and save more’ summer campaign. The new initiative is in support of sustainability and will run from June through to the end of summer.

The utility firm says the campaign will help customers reduce their district cooling energy consumption during the summer period, by encouraging users to set their AC thermostats to 24 degrees Celsius. Empower notes this will help reduce cost, promote environmental conservation, save energy, and protect resources, to achieve the transition to a green community.

Empower said that 24 degrees Celsius is the optimum temperature for ideal cooling, which in turn reduces pressure on the air conditioner, reduces the consumption bill, and significantly reduces carbon emissions.

“Saving on district cooling energy, especially in summer, contributes to the conservation of natural resources and the protection of the environment. Empower constantly strives to contribute to reducing energy consumption and adopts sustainable solutions based on the green economy, to support the ‘Green Economy for Sustainable Development’ initiative,” said Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower.

According to a statement, the campaign targets Empower customers in residential and commercial projects, which is said to exceed 100,000. Empower says it is committed to constantly launching campaigns to raise awareness and enhance customer participation in support of sustainability.

“Through this campaign, Empower aims to educate the public about the importance of rationalisation to conserve natural resources and achieve sustainable development. Empower’s total energy savings reached 1,160MW and worth $816,000 at the end of 2018. We aim to increase this by the end of 2019,” explained Bin Shafar.
