Hyundai Engineering and Construction has awarded an engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) subcontract to France’s POMA for Ain Dubai in Meraas’ island destination, Bluewaters.
According to a statement from the French company that specialises in ropeway transportation, it is responsible for the delivery of 48 high-tech capsules for Ain Dubai. Following the terms of the contract, project management, engineering, and procurement had already begun, POMA noted.
Set to be completed in time for Expo 2020 Dubai, Ain Dubai will become the world’s tallest observation wheel at a height of 250m, once finished. Earlier this year, Meraas had stated that the last of the permanent spoke cables has been installed and construction is progressing as per schedule.
POMA added that it has extensive experience with providing capsules for observation wheel projects, having previously worked with the London Eye in London and the High Roller in Las Vegas, which is currently the tallest observation wheel in the world at a height of 167m.
It further stated that this award demonstrated the company’s ability to innovate and design the right engineering solutions for a safe, effective and cost-efficient project delivery.
