New Sheikha Fatima Park will be an open-air, multi-use space with a hive of community-led activities
Property developer, IMKAN has announced the revamping of the formerly confined Khalidiya Ladies Park to an open-air, multi-use space with a hive of community-led activities. It signed a partnership agreement with the Abu Dhabi City Municipality to transform the existing ladies park into a dynamic destination and support sustainable growth in the capital.
The statement from the Abu Dhabi-based company said that construction for an area of 46,000 sqm is underway, and that it is scheduled for completion by Q4 2019. The new Sheikha Fatima Park will consist of an adventure zone, a section devoted to women and children, multiple retail and F&B (food and beverages) outlets, activity areas, and interactive outdoor and educational zones as well as parking spaces for 350 people will be provided. Located at the corner of Al Bateen Street and Zayed the First Street, there is roughly 10,000 sqm of leasable space available for regional and global businesses to set-up and provide services.
“We are proud of IMKAN’s partnership with Abu Dhabi Municipality to develop the city’s first-ever urban park,” said Walid El Hindi, CEO at IMKAN. “The government’s vision and insights are at the core of what we stand for and it is a great honour to be able to combine our ideas, take concepts from the drawing board and use them as a catalyst to transform inner-city communities.”
The main contract for the development of the project was given to Al Fara’a Engineering, and key partners working on the park are consultancy firm Arcadis, design solution firm Cracknell Landscaping and architecture firm Benoy.
Jamie Webb, head of EMEA at Benoy said: “Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Park will represent a completely new typology for Abu Dhabi. Collaborating with our landscape architects, we have blurred the boundaries between green spaces and commercial areas, such as a series of park pavilions and an open-air amphitheatre, creating a unique lifestyle offer within the heart of the community.
