The importance of innovation

Innovation is at the heart of everything Metsec does, which is reflected in our commitment to ensuring we’re up to date with the latest Building Information Modelling (BIM) accreditations, our offsite framing offering, the launch of MetSPEC 14. Middle East, and our constant exploration of the market and developments to our various product ranges to enable us to meet unique customer demands.

We recognise the importance of BIM and the part it will play in the future of construction, and as a result, we’re the first cold roll forming company to be kitemarked BIM Level 2 for design and construction by the BSI. As modern infrastructure becomes more complex, tools such as BIM not only provide additional information to help make the drawings more efficient and accurate, but they also enable us to get involved at the design stages, saving both time and money for the customer.

Technological advancements in the construction sector are progressively being adopted, and Metsec is once again at the forefront of this move towards modern construction methods. One of the main benefits of Metframe, our offsite framing offering, is speed of build – more information can be found here.

voestalpine Metsec plc recently won the ‘Product Innovation of the Year’ award at the Big Project Middle East Awards for its purlins optimisation software, MetSPEC 14. Middle East, highlighting our commitment to innovation.

We’re committed to supporting structural engineers from the early specification stage, and our updated software will further enable them to optimise and streamline their design to the required standards, while providing cost-effective, efficient and lighter purlins solutions.

MetSPEC 14. Middle East

Metsec’s award-winning software provides customers with the option of designing products to the following standards: AISI S100, the North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, and ASCE 7-05, the Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures.

The free-of-charge software provides structural engineers with all of the latest products and sizes, as previously, time-consuming, inflexible load tables were required to calculate bespoke solutions.

From strength to strength

Another benefit of MetSPEC 14 is its ability to enable engineers to choose the optimum purlin size and purlin system.

For example, there can be detrimental consequences if an engineer bases their design on a purlin manufactured from 450N/mm2 yield strength but the purlin supplied is manufactured from 350N/mm2.
