The United Eastern Medical Services Board (UEMedical) has announced the second phase of the expansion project of Danat Al Emarat Hospital for Women and Children in Abu Dhabi.
The $86.1 million expansion project includes the construction of a new tower with a capacity of 100 beds and will be located adjacent to the current hospital building in Abu Dhabi Gate City, to be operational by mid-2020. American architectural firm HKS who designed the existing tower for Danat Al Emarat has been awarded the contract for the design project.
Mohamed Hamad Al Hameli, the undersecretary of Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DoH), during the announcement, said: “The Department of Health supports expansions of services and operational facilities that are aligned with the current market needs and in line with the capacity gaps study that was published by DOH recently which identifies the most needed medical services in Abu Dhabi.”
The official press-release also stated that Al Hameli said, the construction work for the hospital will be an addition to women and children healthcare services, at the same time increasing the overall capacity of beds, especially the number of advanced NICU beds. It will also bring in paediatrics subspecialties and improve the services provided to women and children in the Emirate.
Construction is likely to begin in the next three months, commented UEMedical CEO and Managing Director Mohammed Ali Al Shorafa Al Hammadi
“Once the second tower gets completed, the total number of hospital beds will increase to 225 beds covering various specialties. With that, UEMedical’s assets will increase to Dh2.5 billion,” he added.
The expansion project comes following detailed studies in co-operation with the Department of Health Abu Dhabi, identifying specialties needed, capacity gaps and beds required especially in the fields of paediatrics and obstetrics and gynaecology, reported Trade Arabia News.
