Takreer, the subsidiary of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, announced on Thursday that it had awarded a $2.48bn contract to South Korea’s Samsung Engineering Company to build plants in Abu Dhabi.
According to a report by Gulf News, the deal will see Samsung build a carbon black unit and a delayed coker unit in Ruwais, west of Abu Dhabi by January 2016.
“When completed, the facilities will have a capacity of 40,000 tonnes of carbon black per year and process 30,000 barrels of crude oil per day,” the South Korean firm said in a statement.
The company said that its Letter of Award from Takreer was the eighth order from ADNOC since 2007, bringing the total value of deals up to $9.1bn.
“The LOA stipulates that Samsung shall provide project management services for engineering, construction, procurement and commissioning procedures on a lumpsum turnkey foundation,” a Takreer official who did not wish to be named, told the newspaper.
Takreer said that Bechtel Corporation and Honeywell are in charge of consultancy. Samsung had previously won the Ruwais Refinery Utilities and Offsite packages worth $2.73bn from ADNOC.
It was also chosen as the official interface manager for the $10bn Ruwais Refinery expansion, the company said.
