Dubai Electricity and Water (DEWA) has awarded contracts worth $35.6 million to supply, extend and commission 19.5 km of water pipelines to different parts of Dubai.
The project includes the extension of 1200 mm (diameter) glass reinforced epoxy (GRE) main water pipes to connect parts of Dubai, including the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Emirates Road, Al Maktoum international Airport at Dubai World Central in Jebel Ali, and Dubai Industrial City with the Hassyan plant, according to the statement.
The project is initiated to increase the water flow and meet the higher demand for water in these areas due to new projects which are in development. The project is reported to include several sites for connecting main transmission pipelines, ensure the continuity of water access, and raise pressure in the network to keep pace with the increasing demand for water in areas of development.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayler, MD and CEO of DEWA said: “Awarding this project supports our efforts to achieve the vision of the wise leadership to promote the comprehensive and sustainable development of Dubai. This project implements our ambitious strategies and plans to meet the comprehensive development needs of electricity and water and achieve the aspirations of all stakeholders according to the highest standards of availability, reliability and efficiency.”
