Ducab High Voltage welcomes UAE Minister for Advanced Sciences
Partnership with the private sector is key to enhancing access to advanced science solutions, says company
Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri, UAE Minister of State for Advanced Sciences, recently visited Ducab High Voltage (Ducab HV), the only dedicated high voltage cable manufacturing facility in the Middle East.
Jointly owned by Ducab, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, Ducab HV has invested to develop its laboratory facilities into a state-of-the-art Extra High Voltage Development facility, with a vision to support local science and innovation efforts in line with the policies of the Emirates Science Council. Her Excellency Al Amiri was also briefed on the company’s strategy and ongoing efforts to foster scientific and R&D talent within the UAE.
The facility designs, manufactures and installs systems rated up to four hundred thousand volts. According to Ducab, one cable can be 1,000 times the size of a normal household wire and able to carry enough power to supply four buildings the size of the Burj Khalifa.
The company explained that touring the facilities located in Jebel Ali, “Her Excellency was introduced to the advanced technological processes, laboratories, and equipment used by Ducab HV to drive innovation within the UAE’s electrical sector. This includes a state-of-the-art testing facility that can simulate lightning up to two million volts and carry out long term testing at up to six hundred thousand volts. Previously this type of specialist testing had to be carried out overseas, but now the high-voltage cable systems that form the backbone of the nation’s electricity network can be fully assessed and manufactured in the UAE.”
“The UAE is leading the way in electrical infrastructure especially in areas such as cost effective solar power and green energy projects,” commented Her Excellency. “New technologies are constantly being explored and facilities like Ducab HV are essential to create an industrial ecosystem in the UAE that is ready to meet the demands of the future.”
Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri also met with a number of Ducab HV employees and attended a discussion on Ducab Group’s role as a leading Emirati manufacturer supporting the innovation and manufacturing agendas of the UAE government, the company explained.
“Ducab HV has brought the highest level of cable technology into the Ducab Group, strengthening our position as regional leaders in cable system technology across an extensive range of products used for the reliable and safe delivery of power,” said Eng Jamal Al Dhaheri, chairman Ducab and director Ducab HV.
Ahmad Hamad Al Mazrouei, Chairman of Ducab HV added: “Since opening in 2011, Ducab HV has made a notable contribution to the country’s innovation agenda achieving the stretching technology targets set by the shareholders ahead of schedule.”
