Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) recently announced the development and redesign at the Khor Fakkan beach.
A 3 km stretch of land along the public beach will be revitalised to host recreational activities. The project will be implemented in two phases, in line with the Shurooq’s approach to integrate tourism and family destinations across Sharjah.
Phase 1 will look at the south side of the beach, from the port to the roundabout, and includes the construction of an amphitheatre, a walkway overlooking the beach, a skating rink, sport courts, picnic areas and children’s playing area. Other amenities like restaurants, cafes and retail outlets, and gardens that reflect Islamic architecture as well as essentials like showers, bathrooms and changing rooms will be offered as well.
Phase 2, meanwhile will focus on the northern area, of which details are yet to be announced.
Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, Executive Chairman of the Shurooq, said that, “The development offers endless attractions for families and tourists. It provides modern facilities and high-end services that will add value and encourage a healthy lifestyle among residents and visitors of Khor Fakkan. Once the project is completed, Khor Fakkan will be a premium tourism destination in the Eastern region, and we expect to receive increasing number of local and international visitors.”
Explaining the need for redesign, Al Sarkal added that, “The development of the project will allow us to expand on our existing and new partnerships with a variety of global brands, across a variety of sectors, who will support in creating facilities and services that meet international standards.”
The development of this project is part of the comprehensive strategic plan to enhance the eastern region of Sharjah, according to the statement released by Shurooq.
