Saudi Arabia’s new 85km long Makkah, Jeddah, and Huda Al-Sham Highway is to be partly operational before this year’s Haj season, according to project director engineer Maher Habash.
The part to be opened will be used to transport pilgrims from the Pilgrims’ City at Jeddah airport to Makkah, said Habash.
Only eight kilometres are remaining for the project to be completed, he added.
Haj operators will be able to transport pilgrims from Jeddah airport to Makkah and Madinah via the new road, he said.
The new road connects Al-Haramain Road (Jeddah highway), Al-Hijra Road which stretches to Madinah, and Makkah Road.
