91% of Yas Waterworld done
Construction of water park is 91% complete, with an official opening set for later this year
Abu Dhabi’s Aldar Properties, developer of the Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi project, has said the construction work on new water theme park on Yas Island is 91% complete, with official opening set for later this year.
The Emirati-themed project spreads across more than 15 hectares offering 43 rides, slides and attractions that follow the adventures of the waterpark’s main character ‘Dana’ -a young Emirati girl in search of a legendary pearl which brought prosperity to the people of her village.
“Emirati culture plays an important part in Yas Waterworld’s design. The park’s theme is centred around pearl diving, a tradition deeply rooted in the local culture and history,” Mike Oswald, park manager of Yas Waterworld, told Gulf News.
Designed by Atkins, the project’s main construction contract had been awarded to Al Jaber Engineering and Contracting (ALEC) for $164.4m.
The project will be managed by Farah Leisure Parks Management, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aldar, which will also operate the park.
