Abanos wins $13.4m milestone contract for Dubai Expo 2020 Village Project

Interior fit-out and joinery company will deliver manufactured products for DWTC project

Abanos, a major interior fit-out and joinery company based in the UAE, has announced that it has been awarded a milestone package worth $13.4 million for the Expo Village project by Dubai World Trade Centre.

In a statement, the company said that the project win is a landmark in the history of Abanos. It will utilise state-of-the-art joinery and fit-out products manufactured at Abanos’ 21,000sqm facility to supply and install non-fire-rated and fire-rated doors, kitchen cabinets and wardrobes for the Dubai Expo 2020 Village Project.

The project built up area is 48,488sqm and has a contract value of $13.4 million for carpentry and joinery works, spread across 11 plots and five parcels – three of which have been commissioned to Abanos, the statement added.

“We are thrilled to win this contract – the Expo Village project is a milestone in our company’s journey, a result of the hard work and dedication of every single member in our diverse, experienced team. We are extremely glad to kick-off this partnership with DWTC and work with their team of highly-qualified and professional experts to complete the project on time and develop a fruitful relationship with the DWTC team,” said Kamal Farah, CEO of Abanos.

The Expo Village project will be delivered in two phases. Each of the 11 plots will have podium parking, and the project will be connected to Dubai Metro’s Red Line extension. It will be designed within a Building Information Modelling (BIM) framework so as to achieve LEED Gold certification.

Construction of the project is underway, with the expectation of delivery in Q4 2019.

In addition to hosting thousands of visitors and participants during Expo 2020, Dubai Expo Village will feature a range of retail outlets and community amenities, including a school, day-care centre and a healthcare facility.
