Empower awards $48m in contracts for extension of district cooling pipe network

Network will be extended on Sheikh Zayed Road, district cooling provider says

Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) has awarded $48 million in contracts for the extension of its district cooling pipe networks in the emirate of Dubai.

In a statement, the entity said that it will extend its network on Sheikh Zayed Road to serve the Dubai Arena and Al Wasl Tower, within three kilometres from Empower’s district cooling plant in Business Bay.

‘Unique technologies’ will be used to connect the pipes in a way that will not disrupt the road traffic system. This will be achieved by digging a tunnel under Sheikh Zayed Road, with a depth of 15 metres, the company said, without clarifying further.

Another pipe network will also be extended to Al Batha Tower, it added. The extension will also include other projects at Dubai Healthcare City, Phase Two of Jumeriah Village South, Dubailand, Cityland and Dubai Science Park (Phase Two), with a total length of eight kilometres.

Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said that having an advanced infrastructure contributes to providing world-class district cooling services. He stated that Empower would continue to pay attention to all its operational phases, from district cooling plants to high-quality and environmentally friendly pipe networks.

“The extension of the pipe network reflects the high demand for district cooling systems across the emirate and indicates the wide spread of district cooling services in various sectors. This contributes to energy conservation, saving the environment, preservation of natural resources, and saving maintenance and operational costs,” he concluded.
