Nakheel awards $28.6m beach deal

Dutch firm, Van Oord, will work on the Palm Jumeirah trunk, as well as the Palma Residences project

Nakheel has appointed Van Oord to complete beach profiling work on Palm Jumeirah.

Global dredging and offshore contractor Van Oord has been awarded a $28.6m contract by Dubai’s Nakheel for beach profiling works on the man-made Palm Jumeirah island. The profiling work is set to commence in the third week of September 2012, with completion set within seven months, the state-owned developer said.

As per the contract, the Dutch firm is to use “prime quality sand on the Eastern and the Western edges of the Palm Jumeirah trunk, and the recently launched Palma Residences project.”

Launched in April this year, Palma Residences  are located on a 61,000 marea of reclaimed land off the eastern side of Palm Jumeirah’s trunk, and comprise a collection of 104 Mediterranean-themed residential units, each with direct beach or pool access.
