Karama Metro Station in Dubai returned back to normal operations on Saturday morning following what officials called a ‘technical glitch’ that stopped service on Friday.
Ramadan Abdullah, director of operations at RTA’s Rail Agency told Gulf News on Friday that the Red Line service was delayed in one direction only. He added that all other services and stations operated smoothly and on schedule.
An alternative bus service was provided for the Karama Metro stop till normal operations were resumed.
Metro users heading towards Jebel Ali said that were informed ahead of time about the delay, and were not as affected as passengers heading in the other direction.
“At Union Station, we were informed that there was a problem with the Metro, so we decided to transfer to the Green Line. The trains supposedly heading to Jebel Ali were diverted to the other side to carry passengers to Rashidya instead,” Mark Sid Reyes, a commuter, told the Dubai based newspaper.
However, other commuters weren’t so lucky, with one terming the experience ‘horrible’.
“Though we understand that mechanical failures are common, we were asked to get down at Business Bay Station and were told that feeder buses would drop us to our destination. Till 11:15pm, no buses were in sight,” she explained.
RTA officials did not comment on the situation on Saturday, Gulf News said.
