Consultancy will be responsible for commissioning an additional 12,000RT of cooling capacity
SNC-Lavalin has won an engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract, for the expansion of a district cooling project at Jabal Omar Development Company (JDOC) in Saudi Arabia. The JDOC contract is said to be valued at $42.6m.
The contract was awarded by Central District Cooling Company, a subsidiary of Saudi Tabreed. As per the terms of the deal, SNC-Lavalin will be responsible for the design, procurement, construction and commissioning of an additional cooling capacity of 12,000 Refrigeration Tons (RT), with all ancillary equipment, energy transfer stations and a chilled water network. The total cooling capacity of the district cooling plant will then stand at 47,000 RT.
“With this 7th district cooling project in Saudi Arabia and our 46th overall in the Middle East, not only are we confirming our world-leading reputation in this sector but also delivering on our vision of engineering complex projects for a sustainable lifespan,” said Ian L Edwards, president (Infrastructure) at SNC-Lavalin.
Edwards said that work on the project is underway and preparatory construction activities are ongoing, with construction of the plant scheduled to begin in July.
“Our district cooling projects provide chilled water for residential apartments, offices, universities, hotels, military facilities, stadiums, hospitals and government institutions in the Middle East and this contract reflects our strategy of bringing the full spectrum of our global expertise to the region,” added Mohamed Youssef, SVP Infrastructure (Middle East) at SNC-Lavalin.
