Emicool wins contract for key Expo 2020 district cooling project

Emirates District Cooling (Emicool) has won the contract for a district cooling plant to serve the Expo Village, Dubai South Mall and the new Conference and Exhibition Centre at the Expo site. The plant will also serve the RTA Station and Project Star mall area according to a statement from Emicool.

The plant is under fast track construction staging and will have a total capacity of 60,000 Tonnes of Refrigeration (TR) and includes 48,000 TR of mechanical chillers and 12,000 Thermal Energy Storage (TES). It is scheduled to deliver the first phase of chilled water from May 2019.

The plant is said to be a key element in the Expo 2020 masterplan and is part of its legacy infrastructure beyond 2020.

According to Emicool, the district cooling contract is a significant milestone in line with its plans to be associated with iconic projects in the UAE and across the region. The firm currently provides district cooling services to Green Community, DIP, Dubai Motor City, Dubai Sports City, DAMAC Hills, Mirdif Hills, Uptown Mirdif and Palazzo Versace in Dubai.
