Cimolai Rimond Middle East makes $3.8m Alimak access equipment order for Expo 2020 project

Company to supply and install internal and external access equipment at Expo site’s centrepiece

General contractor Cimolai Rimond Middle East has placed an order valued at approximately $3.8m with Alimak Group’s Industrial Equipment business segment for the Al Wasl Plaza at the site of the Expo 2020 in Dubai.

The Al Wasl Plaza, the centrepiece of Expo 2020 site, will be topped by a dome trellis structure 67.5m tall and 130m wide. When finished, the structure will consist of 13,600m of intricate steelwork and weigh 2,265t.

Sweden’s Alimak Group is a global provider of vertical access solutions for industry and the construction sector, including construction lifts and hoists. One of the group’s companies, CoxGomyl, will supply, install, test and commission internal and external access equipment that will be used for maintaining and cleaning the special fabric elements that form the external skin of the structure. The systems will be delivered and installed by mid-2019.

“This order for access equipment for Expo 2020 Dubai is further recognition of Alimak Group’s leading building maintenance solutions that are custom designed to support reliable, safe and efficient access to complex structures. The Group’s global presence was a major deciding factor for the customer and CoxGomyl worked closely with the lead architects to create an innovative bespoke access solution to ensure all areas of the dome can be maintained while minimizing the visual impact of the systems,” said Tormod Gunleiksrud, CEO, Alimak Group.
