East Coast C&T wins contract to build Kalba Waterfront retail development

Developer Eagle Hills Sharjah says works have begun within Kalba Eco-Tourism project

Developer Eagle Hills Sharjah has appointed East Coast Contracting and Trading as a contractor for its $44m Kalba Waterfront project. According to a statement from the developer, the contractor has already begun enabling and structural works on the master-planned retail development.

The project covers a gross floor area of 17,000sqm and offers a gross leasing area of 11,200sqm within the Kalba Eco-Tourism project. The retail project was launched in response to the growing demand for modern retail facilities in the area. The developer expects the project to become the leading shopping, dinning and leisure destination once it opens in Q3, 2019.

The waterfront destination along with Maryam Island and Palace Al Khan represent Eagle Hills’ initial entry into the Sharjah real estate market. The three projects are said to be worth $735m and are the result of a JV between Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) and Eagle Hills.

“Our signing with East Coast Group is only the beginning of our strategic venture to grow our investment portfolio, thanks to their outstanding works in Sharjah, Dubai, Fujairah and their existing retail projects in Kalba, affirming our confidence and trust in their capabilities to make our vision come true,” said Marwan bin Jassim Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq.

Eagle Hills said the Kalba Waterfront takes inspiration from the traditional souqs found in the northern emirates, combining internal public streets with contemporary architectural language and connecting visitors with the surrounding waterfront.

“In line with our mission to drive economic growth across the UAE and particularly in the northern emirates, we identified a need in Sharjah’s retail market for a modern facility that would provide entertainment, restaurants and fashion all under one roof. We are pleased to be addressing this through Kalba Waterfront, a first-of-its-kind retail development for Sharjah,” said Low Ping, CEO of Eagle Hills.

The project will feature 86 retail outlets including dining options, fashion brands and well-known supermarket chains, as well as a large indoor dining area, a children’s play area, family entertainment centre and a park surrounding the lagoon.

Speaking about the contract win, Ahmed Saeed Al Raqbani, MD of the East Coast Group commented, “With our 40-year proven track record in the contracting business, we are committed to delivering a high quality project on schedule and within budget, and we are pleased to be working with Eagle Hills as we believe in the company’s modern vision for the future of Sharjah.”
