Abu Dhabi ready to accommodate relocated government staff

The Abu Dhabi Executive Council has said the government of the UAE’s largest emirate is well equipped to accommodate and serve the expected rise in residents once the government’s recent order for all employees of local departments and agencies to reside only within the emirate is implemented.

“The decision has not been taken without studies and looking into the basic needs of government employees,” the Secretariat-General of the council was quoted as saying by the Khaleej Times.

According to figures by the government, the total number of employees and their families who live outside the emirate is estimated at 23,000 people.

Health authorities in Abu Dhabi are ready to absorb a population of 20,000, and with 12 new schools awaiting opening and a total of new 34 schools to begin functioning in the next academic year, the emirate’s education sector will be able to accommodate 22,000 students by the next academic year, the council said.

“This is expected to go up again, to provide 65,000 study seats in the academic year 2013-2014,” the council added.
