The next big thing: Marriott Marquis

World’s tallest hotel to open in Dubai by December of 2012

JW Marriot has begun its countdown to the opening of the world’s tallest hotel, JW Marriott Marquis, in Dubai this December.

Already classified by the Department of Tourism and Commerce, the 355m tower is only 26 metres shorter than the Empire State building in New York.

In keeping with the exclusivity of a world record holder, JW Marriot has branded the hotel alongside it’s other “Marquis” offering in Miami, to signal an “exceptional” hotel in the global group’s portfolio. This is the first Marquis branded hotel outside of North America.

“Dubai shall always be in the lead; a premier hub for tourism, business and finance across the region,” said Majid Al Marri, director of the Hotel Classification Department

“The fabulous designs of the hotel, a new addition to hotel facilities in Dubai, will be up to guests’ expectations, tastes and needs,” he is also quotes as saying to DTCM during a presentation on the hotel.

Located at Business Bay, Sheikh Zayed Road, the hotel will become the Emirates third record breaker on height, after the tallest residential tower, Princess Tower; and the world’s tallest building. Burj Khalifa.

Opening over two phases, the first will comprise 804 rooms in addition to F&B offerings and is due to open its doors before the end of 2012.
