HLG awarded raft foundation contract for super tall Uptown Dubai tower

Foundation raft for Adrian Smith-designed tower will be completed by June 2018

DMCC's Ashton says the super tall tower will be ready for Expo 2020

DMCC has announced that Dubai based contractor HLG will build the concrete raft foundation for one of Uptown Dubai’s two super tall towers.

According to DMCC, HLG beat eight other shortlisted contractors for the works with HLG scheduled to deliver the project by June 2018. Building the foundation raft will require the pouring of 12,000 cubic metres of concrete and 1,500 tonnes of reinforcement steel to complete.

Shoring and piling works are underway for the 930,000sqm development of grade A commercial and luxury residential space, added HLG in a statement, addding, “Uptown Dubai’s first super tall tower, will comprise luxury hotel rooms and suites, high end restaurants, health spas, extensive conference facilities, and 240 uniquely designed branded residences set for sale in early 2018.

“DMCC’s Uptown Dubai development is well underway as planned with piling, shoring and now raft foundation construction by HLG commencing in March. The HLG collaboration will literally provide the foundation for what will take Uptown Dubai’s first landmark super tall tower to new heights ready for occupancy by Expo2020,”  said Paul Ashton, executive director – Property, DMCC.

The two super-tall towers are being designed by internationally renowned architect firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill from Chicago which also drafted Burj Khalifa and the Jeddah Tower. DMCC began the construction of its Uptown Dubai in September 2017, a premium mixed-use destination with 7 towers atop 7 levels of podium. The district’s main podium, 28m above ground, features a two-level central plaza that will be larger than New York Times Square, circled by world class outlets, connected to a retail mall below, all with direct access to the iconic towers.
