The Dubai Municipality will shed light on its five-year sewage and irrigation plan at the 4th Annual
Underground Infrastructure and Deep Foundations Conference, taking place from 13-15 November at the Le Royal Meridien – JBR The Walk, Dubai.
In anticipation of the upcoming conference, Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General, Dubai Municipality, commented: “The introduction of a flexible and integrated deep drainage system confirms the creative vision and a qualitative development in the Middle East. This project will benefit Dubai for 100 years without sewage problems or the need for maintenance. This will reflect Dubai as a smart city with a deep strategic vision that illustrates and achieves the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for Dubai to be a city of sustainable living well with a vision of sound, intelligent and continuous planning”.
Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Alrayees, Acting Director of Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID), Dubai Municipality, also noted: “DID has currently over 19 drainage projects and 33 irrigation projects between design and construction with a total cost of more than AED 2.7 billion and this doesn’t include the deep tunnel projects. We have already started construction in the storm water deep tunnel which will be serving the Expo, Maktoum Airport and Dubai South area with a budget of approximately AED 8 billion. The preliminary design of the sewage tunnel is also ongoing. This project is expected to cost an approximate AED 30 billion to be completed over the course of the next 7 years”.
