Oman awards $320m contract for Batinah Expressway

Sultanate’s first dual four-lane expressway will connect the Muscat Expressway to Khatmat Melahah

 

Oman’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has awarded an 80-20 joint venture between Oman Road Engineering Company and Malaysia’s WCT Berhad a $320m contract to build the second package of the Batinah Expressway project.

WCT said the contract involves the construction and completion of a 44.75 km four-lane expressway. It is expected to be completed within three years.

The Sultanate’s first dual four-lane expressway will connect the Muscat Expressway in the Wilayat of Barka to Khatmat Melahah in the Wilayat of Shinas, a distance of about 265km.

The first four packages of the road covering about 181km have been awarded, while the final two (84km)will be floated by the Tender Board later on together with the package for the small connections.
