Bahrain’s Mina Salman Interchange ahead of schedule
$66.3m project to be completed four months ahead of schedule in August 2013, Minister says
Bahraini Works Minister Essam Khalaf has announced that the $66.3m Mina Salman Interchange project will be completed four months ahead of schedule, in August 2013.
The project, one of Bahrain’s largest infrastructure projects, involves the construction of a three-level underpass from the Sheikh Isa bin Salman bridge leading to Hidd in both directions – via the Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Causeway.
It will also have a two-lane flyover for traffic coming from Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway and heading to the north towards Al Fateh Highway.
“The idea is to complete the project in the shortest time possible so that inconvenience to the public is minimised,” Khalaf told reporters at the site.
According to figures by the ministry, over 74,000 vehicles, 24% of which are heavy, pass through the junction daily.
The interchange will be controlled by signals that will direct traffic from and to Mina Salman Industrial Area through Avenue 42, Al Fateh Highway and Sheikh Isa bin Salman Highway.
