In response to speculation about the proposed Al Maqtaa, Bahya Corniche Cable Car project, the Department of Municipal Affairs & Transport at Abu Dhabi Municipality released a statement on its website stating that the project is still under study and “has not been yet released officially to contractors.”
The department revealed that the project is part of a larger bouquet of proposed projects and future investment opportunities in the city.
The proposed cable car project has a projected cost of $95m, and would link tourist and other key projects at Al Maqtaa. The proposal includes five stations starting from Al Maqtaa Creek parallel to Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road nearby Al Maqtaa Bridge. The second station is Khalifa Park, followed by Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the fourth is near the Ritz Carlton. The project then turns to the Arabian Gulf Street in a route parallel to Musaffah Bridge to terminate at the fifth and final station at the Canal Project and Al Barri Souk.
The Department of Municipal Affairs & Transport added that all investment opportunities it provides to the private sector aim to bolster partnerships with the local business community. The department also said that the projects are designed to realise the aspirations of residents and visitors, and promote Abu Dhabi as a global tourist hub, and one of the best places to live, work and visit.
