Karama Colony set for demolition in Dubai

Al Wasl Properties has said that all residents of the Sheikh Rashid Colony in Karama have been vacated after the Sunday deadline, before the old buildingsare set to be demolished.

Once home to 2,000 people in 800 flats, which were considered by some as a landmark of old Dubai and offered affordable accommodation to expatriate residents, the ten buildings will finally be demolished.

“The buildings in Karama will be demolished. All the residents have been served with eviction notices and have vacated the building on Sunday,” an Al Wasl Property representative was quoted as saying by Emirates 24-7.

The colony was first built in 1978, where several families have resided for generations after inheriting ‘tenancy rights’ from the government. Most of the families have now shifted to either Al Qusais and Sharjah, including one that had lived there for 33 years.
