The US’ largest construction and engineering company, Bechtel has been awarded the contract by Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma’aden) to conduct a pre-feasibility study for the firm’s proposed copper and zinc smelter projects in Saudi Arabia.
The multibillion-dollar projects are to include the construction of two world-class smelters with an output of 500,000 tonnes of copper per year and an annual production of 200,000 tonnes of zinc.
“We have built a strong relationship with Ma’aden Aluminium Company in the last eight years of working with them on their Ras Al Khair aluminium smelter,” said Russ Barretta, the general manager of Bechtel Mining and Metals for North America, Europe, and the Middle East.
