Dubai’s Metito signs on for major Australian projects

Metito, the Dubai based intelligent water management provider, announced on Tuesday that it had signed on for its latest overseas projects in Australia, in partnership with Bechtel International.

Both projects are located on Curtis Island, near Gladstone in Queensland. Bechtel is constructing three separate LNG plants on the island, which will liquefy coal seam gas ready for export for two customers – GLNG (a joint venture between Santos, Petronas, Total and Kogas) and Australia Pacific LNG (a joint venture between Conocophillips, Origin and Sinopec).

Metito has been hired to work on the design, fabrication and the supervision of installation of initial equipment, which will be supplied by it. This includes seawater reverse osmosis desalination plants and sewage treatment plants, which will be used for the construction sites at GLNG.

“These developments show a continuing effort from Metito to utilise its technical expertise and state of the art equipment to provide high quality service to our clients around the globe,” said Tarek Ghandour, International Business Development manager for Metito.

He added that the specifications outlined by the clients meant that the plants had to meet challenging feed water quality and very strict discharge limits. Furthermore, to meet the needs of the build schedule for the plants, construction of the water and sewage treatment plants were fast-tracked.

This was followed by the supply of demineralisation systems using reverse osmosis and electrodeionization for Australia Pacific LNG. Oily waste treatment systems were also used for GLNG. The demineralised water is then used for the Acid Gas Reduction Unit and turbine wash.
