UAE’s BACS market ‘to see 8% growth from 2016-2021’
Growing focus towards infrastructure development and increased government support driving interest in building automation and control systems – report
The UAE’s building automation and control systems (BACS) market is projected to register a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of more than 8% during 2016 to 2021, according to a report from TechSci Research, a management consultancy firm.
According to the report, the growing focus towards infrastructure development, increasing government support, and the rising adoption of energy efficient devices, will see a drive towards building automation and control systems in the UAE, fuelling the growth of that market sector.
Furthermore, the growing hospitality sector in the country – fuelled by events like Expo 2020 – will also have an impact on the BACS market.
The sector encompasses the automatic centralised control of a building’s lighting control systems, HVAC, energy management systems and security and access control. These systems are utilised by operation and maintenance teams to reduce, monitor and optimise energy consumption and security in a building.
In 2015, the UAE’s BACS market was mainly driven by increased demand from the commercial and residential sectors, thanks to a growing population and a rising demand for energy efficiency, the firm stated in the ‘UAE Building Automation & Control Systems Market, By Product, By Communication Protocol, By Application, By End User, Competition Forecast and Opportunities, 2011 – 2021’ report.
Government policies and regulations targeted at improving energy efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions are also one of the reasons why the adoption and deployment of BACS systems in the UAE will continue to grow, it added.
By integrating the Internet of Things with BACS, the report said that end-users will be able to control devices through their smartphones. It is estimated that the installation of these systems can help reduce energy consumption by up to 30%, while also lowering operational costs significantly.
Other factors impacting the BACS market will be a surging economy, increased disposable income and efforts to reduce the UAE’s carbon footprint.
“Growing investment in hospitality sector and other infrastructure projects such as Dubai metro expansion, airport expansions, and implementation of energy efficiency measures taken by UAE government is driving UAE building automation and control systems market,” remarked Karan Chechi, the research director with TechSci Research.
“Further, with growing focus towards CO2 emissions reduction, rising electricity costs and increasing focus towards electronic security is driving demand for building automation and control systems market in the UAE,” he noted, adding that Dubai led the demand for BACS products due to the number of high-rise towers and tourists in the city.
