Kuwait floats tender for $500m maternity hospital project

600 bed hospital project scheduled for completion in December 2013, Kuwait Ministry of Public Works says

Construction firms have received invitations from the Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works to bid for a 600-bed maternity hospital project in Al-Sabah district with an estimated total cost of $500m.

According to a report by MEED, the tender comes as part of a government strategy to expand the country’s healthcare infrastructure to meet the needs of the growing population.

The ministry will continue to receive bids for the project until September 16. The new building will be constructed opposite the existing maternity hospital.

The hospital project is scheduled for completion in December 2013. As part of the expansion plan, the Kuwaiti government awarded Alghanim International General Trading and Contracting last June a $617.5m contract for the construction of the Kuwait Cancer Centre.
