Saudi Aramco to float tender for three IPP plants
Independent power projects will be built on a build, own, operate and transfer basis
Saudi Aramco is set to invite bids this week for the construction of three greenfield gas-fired electricity and steam plants in the Kingdom’s Eastern Region, with requests for proposals (RFP) to be issued to qualified bidders by July 25.
A report by MEED said that the plants will be located at Abqaiq, Hawiyah and Ras Tanura.
The independent power projects (IPPs) will be built on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) basis, with the ownership of each project being transferred to Aramco 20 years after the start of commercial operations.
The projects, which will have a total installed capacity of about 770MW of power and 2.95 million pounds an hour in steam output, will convert fuel gas and feed water provided by the state-owned oil giant into electricity and steam for sale under an energy conversion agreement.
