Ashghal, the Public Works Authority of Qatar, has appointed a joint venture between consultancy EC Harris and Mace, under a five year, $113.9m contract.
The JV will see the companies responsible for overseeing what is described as a “major programme of social infrastructure building projects across the country”, required to cope with population and economic growth in the country.
The remit will include programme management of planning, procurement, and management of the design, supervision, and construction contracts. Projects will cover education, healthcare, transport infrastructure, waterfront developments, tourism and public sports facilities.
“This appointment is a unique opportunity to facilitate the development of the public works landscape across Qatar and we are thrilled to be part of the delivery team,” said Mace deputy CEO Mark Reynolds.
“The size and scope of the infrastructure project will provide the opportunity to demonstrate how collaboration and partnership can produce a scheme of innovation that places the country’s society at the heart of the project,” Reynolds added.
It’s not the first time the two companies have worked together, and in Qatar a similar arrangement saw them collaborate on Doha Festival City.
“We are delighted to have been selected by Ashghal to deliver this large-scale programme of works.
“This represents a further example of how an integrated approach in partnership with a government organisation, enables a faster and more sustainable delivery of ambitious Nation Building strategies,” commented EC Harris regional leader, John Williams.
