Work starts on Doha Metro underground stations – report

Works on several of the underground stations of the Doha Metro have begun after the recent completion of the tunnelling of the entire 53.25km distance, a senior Qatar Rail official said.

“The electro-mechanical works have commenced in many of the stations on the four lines,” revealed Qatar Rail managing director Abdulla Abdulazeez al-Subaie on the sidelines of the ongoing Qatar Transport Safety Forum in the capital Doha, reports Gulf Times.

The Red Line North (11.30km), Red Line South (12.05km), Green Line (16.60km) and Gold Line (13.30km) are the four major underground alignments of the Doha Metro.

Speaking earlier at the forum, Ministry of Transport and Communications’ Road Transport Planning Department director Rashid Taleb al-Nabet said both communications and transport were among the sectors that contributed significantly to the development of the national economy.

By 2030 three networks – the Doha Metro, Lusail Tram and the long-distance rail, which will link Qatar with the GCC Rail network – will be ready, according to the Doha Metro website.
