Infrastructure projects approved by Abu Dhabi Executive Council

A number of major infrastructure projects in the UAE capital have been approved, with housing, road networks and water systems set to be constructed over the course of the year

The Executive Committee of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council has approved the construction of a number of major infrastructure projects in the UAE capital, it was announced on Tuesday.

These include national housing projects and road and water systems, the committee said. Also discussed where the construction of zones allocated for public transport on Zayed First, Zayed Second and Hamdan Streets in Abu Dhabi City. The project aims to promote transport efficiency through provision of special lanes for public buses, reduction of commuting time, and congestion on internal roads and upgrade the safety of public transport.

The committee also approved the awarding of the second phase of the northern circular road project in Al Ain and the development of its intersections. Furthermore, the tarmac road construction project that will connect Nafeer and Al Jifn Industrial area in Liwa with the Western region was also approved.

The budget for the provision of recycled water in the Al Falah residential area through the existing main pipeline was also set by the committee. The pipeline will be connected to the water pumping station to prove 1,300m3 of water per day. A storm water network to drain off rain water on Abu Island was also approved.

Finally, the construction progress of a number of villas for UAE nationals was also discussed by the committee. The residential units will be built in Ghayathi and the Western Region. The project is one of key interest to the Executive Council, as it was one of the first approved this year.
