Khansaheb wins $105m contract for Ajman mall works

Khansaheb, Interserve’s construction associate business in the UAE, has been awarded a $105.35 million contract by Majid Al Futtaim to expand and upgrade the City Centre Ajman mall.

The UAE-based property developer has awarded the contract to Khansaheb to oversee the expansion of the mall, to more than double the size of the current facility. The mall will go from 32,000sqm to 70,000sqm, with the number of retail units expanding, along with a car park being built to accommodate 2,400 new spaces.

The contract will also cover the addition of new mechanical and electrical installations to serve the expansion. New walkways, food courts, offices and a children’s entertainment venue will also be created. The contractor will also be responsible for the exterior landscaping work and the reconfiguration of access roads leading to the shopping mall.

“This contract win demonstrates Majid Al Futtaim Group’s ongoing confidence in Khansaheb’s capabilities in the retail sector as it is closely follows the successful delivery of the expansion of Dubai’s premier shopping centre, Mall of the Emirates,” said Steve Flint, general manager of Khansaheb, in a statement.

Work will be delivered in phases, the contractor said, so as to minimise the disruption to the mall’s operations. Facilities will remain fully functional and open to the public, Flint added.

He added that Khansaheb and Majid Al Futtaim would work closely together to ensure the health and safety of the public, while also minimising any disruption to trading.

The project has commenced and is expected to be delivered by July 2018.
