Muscat Municipality to build two interchanges to ease traffic flow

The municipality of the Omani capital, Muscat, has said a contract to build two interchanges in the governorate have attracted a number of construction companies willing to take part in the bidding.

The project is part of several road-related enhancement projects being undertaken by the civic body aimed at easing traffic flow along key carriageways, as well as upgrading roads to meet traffic growth.

The contract brief calls for two grade-separated interchanges to be constructed across 18th November Street to provide access to the multi-billion dollar, The Wave, Muscat development, comprising six-lane flyover-bridge structures complete with ramps, signalised junctions and landscaped embankments.

The winner of the contract will also be responsible for adding a third lane in each direction to a stretch of the carriageway extending from the newly constructed culvert between The Wave’s Al Mouj golf course and the existing roundabout at Al Khrais Street.
