Siemens has appointed a new chief executive for the company’s operations in Qatar, it has been announced, with Adrian Wood taking charge on September 1.

Wood’s new role comes in the wake of four years as head of Siemens operations in Kuwait.

He has been with the company since joining in 1990 as a marketing analyst within Siemens Environmental Systems in the UK. Since then he has worked in Germany, UAE, Bahrain, Philippines and Kuwait.

Under his stewardship, the Kuwait operations saw growth across the company’s divisions, with a 10% increase in the number of employees – to around 300 – and a doubling of business in the country.

“Adrian Wood brings to Qatar a wealth of regional and international experience from his successful career at Siemens. I am confident he will make valuable contributions to our growth story in Qatar,” said Dietmar Siersdorfer, CEO of Siemens Middle East and UAE.

With regards to his new role in Qatar, Wood will be tasked with strengthening key growth areas and contributing to local value creation in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030. Operations in Qatar have been going since 1970 and Siemens currently employs 500 people in the country.

Some of the key projects in the country include the Qatar Foundation Tram System and a $524.2 million contract with Kahramaa (Qatar General Electricity and Water Cooperation) for 18 turnkey substations. Another key focus area for Siemens Qatar is the interconnection of the virtual and physical worlds in industry, urban infrastructure and energy, driving the digital transformation, the company added in a statement.

“After four years in Kuwait, I am delighted to take on this new challenge during an exciting time for Siemens in Qatar. The country continues to present sizeable growth opportunities across different sectors, and we look forward to contributing innovative Siemens technologies that can meet its long-term development goals sustainably and add value to society,” said Wood.

Meanwhile, Herbert Klausner has been appointed as CEO of Siemens in Kuwait, effective from October 1, 2016. Klausner joins the regional management team from the Power Generation Division in Siemens AG in Germany, where he headed Large Gas Turbine Berlin Operations. He has been at Siemens for 33 years, including roles in Kuwait, Austria, Indonesia and Germany.
