Arab Contractors submit prequalification bid for $3bn Riyadh Light Railway

Arab Contractors, the Riyadh based construction firm, announced on Monday that it had a submitted a prequalification bid for the $3bn Riyadh Light Railway project being developed by the Arriyadh Development Authority.

In a report by Zawya, an ADA official said that the authority had invited international consortia to prequalify for the Riyadh Metro Project before June 20. However, Amr El Tanbouli, project manager for Arab Contractors said that the deadline is likely to be extended.

He added that his firm had also bid for the improvement and maintenance of 54 road tunnels in Makkah, with a total length of 28 kilometres. That project is valued at $799m, he said. Bids for the project close on June 16, 2012.

More than 50 tunnels have recently been constructed in Makkah on the authorisation of the Governorate, so as to ease the movement of pilgrims through the Holy City’s mountains during the holy month of Ramadan.

Arab Contractors currently has a Saudi Arabian portfolio of projects worth $400m. This includes the Haramain High Speed Rail Project, where the company is constructing the infrastructure in parts of Medina city over a length of 50kms.

“We have completed 80% of that,” El Tanbouli said.

He added that the company was also taking part in the extension of the King Faisal Road in Medina, a project valued at $116.7m.
