Majid Al Futtaim plans $163m Ajman mall expansion
City Centre Ajman redevelopment will almost double the size of the mall, increasing the number of outlets to 150
Dubai-based retail giant Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) plans to invest AED600 million ($163.3m) to redevelop City Centre Ajman, which will see the shopping mall almost double in size by the end of next year.
The expanded mall will cover an area of 52,000 sqm and feature 150 retail and dining outlets, and a bigger VOX Cinemas multiplex with 4DX screens as well as specially-designed children’s theatres, MAF said in a statement. The expansion is anticipated to conclude in the third quarter of 2017 followed by an additional refurbishment of the existing mall, which now occupies 29,000 sqm, it added.
“The UAE’s Northern Emirates are a key growth area for Majid Al Futtaim, enabling us to deliver an entirely new set of retail, dining, leisure, and entertainment experiences to both residents and overseas visitors,” said Kim McInnes, chief executive officer for Shopping Malls at Majid Al Futtaim Properties.
“As Ajman’s population increases and a growing number of tourists visit this part of the country, the redevelopment of City Centre Ajman will deliver the highest standard of design and diversity of choice while contributing significantly to the emirate’s economic and employment landscapes.”
The expanded mall will sport a contemporary design and accommodate the expected growth in residents and tourists under the government’s UAE Vision 2021, MAF said. It will also incorporate green features in line with MAF’s sustainability strategy, such as LED lights installed throughout the property and restrooms incorporating water-saving fittings.
The project will also create hundreds of new jobs and contribute to the developer’s recent commitment to invest AED30bn in the UAE by 2026, bringing its total UAE investment to AED48bn, the statement added.
