Dubai’s Nakheel awards $400m mall contract
Dhabi Contracting to build Al Khail Avenue retail project; developer to add 252-room hotel to complex
The Dubai developer Nakheel has awarded a AED 1.5 billion ($408m) construction contract for its Al Khail Avenue mall, and said it plans to add a 252-room hotel to the retail hub.
The contract to build the AED2 billion retail, dining and entertainment complex in Dubai’s Jumeirah Village district was awarded to the UAE-based Dhabi Contracting LLC, Nakheel said in a statement.
Construction is set to begin in early October, following the completion of earthworks at the site – which sits alongside Dubai’s Al Khail Road on the edge of the Jumeirah Village Triangle (JVT) community – in June.
The Al Khail Avenue mall is expected to have 350 shops, restaurants and entertainment outlets. Scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2019, the 2 million sq ft mall has more than 1.2 million sq ft of leasable space, of which around 70 per cent is booked.
Nakheel said it plans to build a connected 18-storey hotel, which will feature an all-day restaurant, coffee shop, outdoor terrace, pool deck gymnasium and car park.
