Qatar’s first theme park hotel ‘90% complete’

Qatar’s first resort attached to a theme park is 90% complete and is set to have its soft opening early next year, according to a report in the country’s press.

The Salwa Resort and Spa, which is coming up next to the six-year-old Aqua Park water park west of Doha, is Qatar’s first hospitality offering at a theme park and is expected to boost the number of visitors to the park, said a report in The Peninsula daily.

“Ninety percent of the hotel is complete and interior work is set to start. It will have its soft opening by the first or second quarter next year,” the paper quoted Mohamed Firdaus Raj, general manager of Aqua Park Qatar, as saying.

The hotel will offer 70 rooms and nine villas along with a spa, which will be its main attraction, Raj told the daily. He added that the facility is expected to cater for tourists coming to visit the park from neighbouring countries and encourage them to stay longer in Qatar.

The majority of GCC tourists coming to the park are Saudis who mostly visit during the Eid holidays and the summer, Raj said.

The hotel will complement the park by offering its guests free access to the facility, the report added, and quoted Raj as saying: “It (will be) the first resort hotel and spa in Qatar connected to a theme park and this will be its unique selling point.”
