H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum opens The Big 5

The Big 5 2011 was officially inaugurated on Monday November 21 by H.H Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, deputy ruler of Dubai.

At 7% bigger than last year’s show and greener than any previous edition in the show’s 30 year history, The Big 5 will welcome key bote addresses form Burj Khalifa and Kingdom Tower architect Adrian Smith, H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmed bin Fahad – minister of the ministry of environment and water in the UAE – and chairman from  the department of municipal affaird in Abu Dhabi, H.E. Majed Ali Al Mansouri.

Environmental activist, educator, film maker and marine explorer, Jean-Michel Cousteau, will also speak.

This year’s show will host over 2,500 exhibitors from 75 countries, covering all sectors of the industry from heavy construction to fit-out; 130 free-to-attend product seminars; and the first Green Build Congress.

Thanking His Highness, show director Andy White said: ” The Big 5 continues to be something of a barometer for the building and construction industry in terms of trends, performance and outlook.

“This year we have introduced a new conference and additional education seminars, focussing on innovative and sustainable products. We have developed a number of features and reports that provide real and relevant added value for participants, and we have ensured that information on innovative new products in the market is readily available. Myself and the team are looking forward to an exciting four-days,” White continued.

The Big 5 2011 will run until Thursday 24 November, opening from 11am – 7pm
