At least 11 people were killed as a fire ripped through a labour camp in Qatar late on Wednesday, according to the interior ministry.
The blaze, at a housing complex for workers on the Slawa Tourism Project, injured at least 12 others, the ministry said via its Twitter account.
“11 people died and 12 injured in the fire and they are hospitalized. Investigation is going on to identify the causes of the fire,” it said.
The identity of the victims was not immediately known.
Civil defence teams contained the fire, which sent black smoke rising high into the sky, according to pictures posted online.
“The Firefighting team that reached the site in record time and evacuated the premises, could control spread of the fire to adjacent areas,” the ministry said.
The fire is believed to be the deadliest in Qatar since a 2012 blaze at the Villaggio shopping mall in Doha, which killed 19 people including 13 children.
