New Fujairah highway opened on National Day

Dhs 2 billion Sheikh Khalifa Expressway to cut travel times by half

Fujairah’s much anticipated Sheikh Khalifa Expressway opened this weekend as part of the Emirate’s National Day celebrations, in the presence of Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, and a number of senior officials.

At a cost of Dhs 2 billion, the road will cut travel times between Fujairah and Dubai and Abu Dhabi to around 30 minutes.

“This is  one of those projects that can make history and change the geography of the UAE by bringing Fujairah closer to Dubai and Abu Dhabi,” said director of Fujairah municipality, Mohamad Al Afkham.

“Fujairah is stepping confidently towards the future it aspires to because of the huge projects that already exist in the Emirate and the future projects anticipated in the next few years. These projects are included in the strategy of the UAE and they support both Fujairah’s and the United Arab Emirates’ economy,” Al Afkham added.

Fujairah’s strategic projects include new hotels, resorts and shopping centres, aiming to develop tourism in addition to the resorts to the built in the Al Aqah and Faqit areas. One of these projects is Mina Al Fajr Real Estate Project located in  Diba Al Fujairah.

In addition to these projects, the Al Hilal city housing project – planned to cover 35 million square feet – will accommodate 70,000 people and is due for completion in 2016.
