Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with Jebel Ali Free Zone, has announced the award of an AED 105 million ($28.5m) contract for the construction of a bridge.
The Jafza Bridge will link the north and south areas of Jebel Ali Free Zone and construction works are expected to last 18 months.
The project is situated near the 10th interchange of Sheikh Zayed Road and will comprise of a dual carriageway of three lanes in each direction. The project aims to link the traffic flow between Jafza North and Jafza South across Sheikh Zayed Road.
“It also includes improvement works on roads connected by the bridge at Jafza North and Jafza South,” said Mattar Al Tayer, director general and chairman of the RTA.
“Such improvement works include widening some roads to three lanes in each direction, and widening the existing roundabout at Jafza North to accommodate the traffic flowing from the bridge, in addition to lighting and infrastructure works such as the shifting of impacted utility lines of water, electricity, irrigation, sewage, rainwater drainage, and communication.”

Once complete the project will ensure the smooth flow of traffic between the two sectors of Jebel Ali Free Zone, while also alleviating the intense traffic that currently forms on Al Maktoum Airport Road, as well as on the 10th interchange.
With more than 7,100 businesses, Jafza is a busy industrial and commercial community on the outskirts of Dubai. The area accounts for more than 50% of the total exports, imports and re-exported commodities within or outside Dubai.
